Grey Water Gauge Showing "Full" or Inaccurate Reading

If your motorhome’s grey water gauge is displaying full, even after you’ve recently emptied the tank, don’t worry—this is a common and harmless issue.

Why the Display Might Be Inaccurate

The grey water gauge uses in-tank sensors that can occasionally provide false readings. This happens due to:

  • Moisture or soap residue clinging to the sensor walls
  • Water splashing inside the tank while driving
  • Sensor buildup from grey water contents (like food particles or grease)

As a result, the dashboard may show that the tank is full—even when it’s not.

Note: These readings do not indicate a serious problem and often reset on their own over time.

What You Should Do

  • Disregard the “Full” warning if you’ve recently emptied the tank.
  • Continue to empty the grey water tank regularly whenever a suitable disposal point is available.
  • Be mindful that the grey water tank holds 125L, the same capacity as your fresh water tank.

Regular emptying helps reduce pressure on the tank and sensors, and ensures your waste system stays in good working condition.

Tips to Help Maintain Your Grey Water Tank

  • Avoid pouring oily or greasy water down the sink—it contributes to sensor buildup.
  • Use a bit of biodegradable cleaner when rinsing to help break down residue.
  • If you have access to grey water disposal sites, empty more frequently than necessary.

When Will It Be Fixed?

If the issue continues throughout your hire, our team will investigate and service the sensor when the vehicle is returned. You don’t need to take any action unless the tank physically backs up or stops draining.
