This article explains where the LDV Rover tow hook is stored and how to install it into the front recovery point. The tow hook is used when the vehicle needs to be recovered or moved by roadside assistance.
The tow hook itself is stored with the vehicle emergency tool kit. The tow hook mounting point is located behind a round cover on the front bumper.
Important safety information
Only use the tow hook for vehicle recovery. Do not use it to tow another vehicle. Before working near the road, switch on the hazard lights, keep clear of traffic, and place the safety triangle in a safe visible position if required.
Emergency tool kit contents shown in the video
The kit includes:
Wheel jack
Tow hook
Wheel brace
Jack winder
Safety triangle
Only the tow hook is required for this procedure.
Where the tow hook is stored
The tow hook is stored in the front cab step storage compartment with the emergency tool kit.
To access it:
Open the front cab door.
Locate the lower step/storage panel inside the cab doorway.
Lift or remove the plastic step cover.
Remove or move the stored tools as needed.
Take out the tow hook from the emergency kit.
The tow hook is the short black metal piece with a threaded end and an eyelet.
Where the tow hook is inserted
The tow hook mounting point is at the front of the vehicle, behind a round plastic cover on the lower front bumper.
When facing the front of the vehicle, look near the lower grille area, to the side of the front licence plate. The tow hook cover is larger than the small parking sensors and is built into the painted bumper.
How to insert the tow hook
Locate the round tow hook cover on the front bumper.
Press or gently pull the edge of the cover to release it.
Allow the cover to hang down on its retaining strap. Do not remove or lose the cover.
Insert the threaded end of the tow hook into the exposed mounting hole.
Screw the tow hook in by hand until it is fully seated and secure.
Check that the tow hook is straight, firm, and not loose before any recovery equipment is attached.
Roadside assistance or a qualified recovery operator should connect recovery equipment to the tow hook.
After the vehicle has been recovered
Unscrew the tow hook from the front bumper.
Refit the round plastic cover into the bumper opening.
Return the tow hook to the emergency tool kit.
Re-secure the jack, wheel brace, jack winder, and safety triangle in the cab step storage compartment.
Replace the plastic step cover.
Troubleshooting
· Tow hook cannot be found
Check the front cab step storage compartment. It may be stored beside or underneath the jack, wheel brace, and safety triangle.
· Bumper cover will not open
Use your fingers to release the edge of the round cover. Avoid using sharp metal tools, as these may damage the paint or plastic cover.
· Tow hook will not screw in
Remove it and try again, making sure the threaded end is aligned correctly. Do not force it, as cross-threading may damage the mounting point.
· Tow hook feels loose
Unscrew it and reinstall it until it is fully seated. Do not allow recovery equipment to be attached if the tow hook is not secure.
