If your motorhome’s electric side step isn’t retracting or is making an alarm noise, don’t worry—this guide will walk you through basic troubleshooting to get it sorted. These steps help us identify the issue quickly if further support is needed. Be sure to view the attached PDF guide and video tutorial
Step 1: Locate the Fuse Panel
Your first step is to check the fuses. These are commonly located:
In the rear dinette area, under the cushion of the seat closest to the stove.
Or on the front panel underneath the seat, depending on your vehicle model.
How to check the fuse:
Open the cabinet door to locate the white fuse box.
Pull the clear cover off towards you to expose the fuses components.
If you see a fuse where the piece of metal inside is detached or if the fuse it lit up, it means the fuse is blown and will need replacing.
Step 2: Check the Relays
Inside the same hatch, you will find a black box please pull the cover off this to expose the three relays:
Top – Ignition Relay
Middle – Side Step Relay
Bottom – Fridge Relay
How to test the side step relay:
Pull out the middle relay.
Inspect the metal pins for damage or burn marks.
Try swapping it with the fridge relay (bottom one) to see if that restores step function. (also double check the fridge on 12V after doing this in case the fault carries over.
Alternative locations:
In some vehicles, the step relay might be inside the lower kitchen cupboard near the step area. Check there if it’s not under the dinette.
