Thetford Fridge Not Working in Your Motorhome? Here's What to Do

If your Thetford fridge isn’t powering on or keeping things cold, here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot the issue. Step 1: Power On the Fridge

1. Find the fridge’s control panel.

2. Press and hold the power button for 1 second to switch it on.

Step 2: Understand Power Modes

The Thetford fridge works with three power sources:

1. 12V Battery (used while driving)

2. 240V Mains Power (when plugged in at a powered site)

3. LPG Gas (when no power connection is available)

To simplify usage, press the left square button until you see the letter "A"—this activates Automatic Mode, allowing the fridge to choose the best available power source automatically.

Step 3: Running the Fridge on LPG (Gas)

1. Open the LPG compartment on your vehicle.

2. Turn the selector valve toward the gas bottle you wish to use.

3. Fully open the valve on the selected bottle—if only partially open, the fridge won’t function properly.

4. You should now see a gas flame symbol on the control panel.

5. If you encounter an error code, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset the system, then try again.

Step 4: Running the Fridge on 240V

1. Plug your motorhome into a 15AMP outlet at the campsite.

2. The plug icon will appear on the fridge display to indicate successful 240V connection.

3. If a spanner symbol appears instead, refer to the 240V troubleshooting guide or contact support.

Step 5: Running the Fridge While Driving (12V Mode)

1. Turn off the LPG bottle.

2. Start your vehicle’s ignition—this triggers 12V mode.

3. You will see a battery symbol indicating it is active.

4. Note: 12V mode will not cool the fridge—it only maintains the current temperature while you're on the road.

Step 6: Adjust the Temperature

1. Press the middle square button to adjust the fridge temperature.

2. We recommend setting it to the maximum of 5 bars for optimal cooling.

Step 7: Error Codes or Beeping?

1. If an error code or unexpected symbol appears:

2. First try a 10-second power button reset.
