Step 1: Confirm the Gas Supply Is Working

  • Ensure the main gas bottle is turned fully on (counter-clockwise).
  • Test your gas stove burners — if they ignite, the gas system is functioning correctly.
  • If the stove doesn’t light, your gas bottle may be empty or not connected securely.

Step 2: Open the Gas Shutoff Valve

Each vehicle has a dedicated hot water gas shutoff valve:

  • Derwent & Deluxe 4 & 6 Berth:
Located under the rear bench seat or front bench near the bathroom.

Make sure the valve is fully open (handle aligned with the gas pipe).

Step 3: Turn On the Hot Water Switch (Sandpiper & Rover only)

  • Inside the motorhome, locate the 12V control panel.
  • Turn on the hot water switch (usually a downward toggle).

This activates the TRUMA gas heating unit.

Step 4: Set the Temperature Sensor Correctly (TRUMA Dial)

  1. Locate the TRUMA temperature sensor dial, usually in the kitchen or bathroom.
  2. Start with the dial set to the centre (0 / neutral) position.
  3. Once the system is ready, turn the dial to 60°C to begin the heating process.

This ensures the system is properly primed before heating begins.

Step 5: Attempt Ignition

  • 4–5 ignition attempts may be needed — this is normal after bottle replacement or first use.

You may hear clicking or see indicator lights during the process.

Step 6: Confirm Successful Ignition

  • Locate the external exhaust vent on the outside of the motorhome.
  • Gently place your hand near the vent — hot air = successful ignition.

Caution: The vent may get hot. Do not touch it directly.

Heating Time

  • The water system holds 14 litres.
  • Heating to full shower temperature may take up to 30 minutes.
