Air Conditioner Not Responding to Remote? Here's How to Reset and Reprogram It (TRUMA Units)

If your roof air conditioner or heater unit isn’t responding to the remote, it may have lost its connection. This guide walks you through quick steps to get it back up and running — no technical skills required.

Step 1: Confirm 240V Power is Connected

Before troubleshooting the AC unit itself, make sure your motorhome is properly connected to mains power:

  1. Ensure the van is plugged into a powered campsite outlet.
  2. Test another appliance (like the electric kettle or toaster) in the internal wall power point to confirm that 240V power is active.

If those appliances work, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Check the AC Circuit Breaker

Each motorhome has a circuit breaker dedicated to the air conditioner. Make sure this switch is turned ON (in the up position).

  • Deluxe 6 & 4 Berth:
Circuit breaker is located under the rear seating/bed area.
  • Sandpiper & Rover:
Find the switch next to the main 12V control panel (typically near the entry door or kitchen).

Step 3: Reset the Indoor Sensor

If the remote is still not working, the unit may need a manual reset.

  1. Locate the small black reset hole on the indoor unit near the sensor.
  2. Use the back end of a matchstick, a hairpin, or pen tip.
  3. Insert and hold for several seconds until the unit turns on or beeps.

This resets the system so you can now re-sync the remote.

Step 4: Watch the Reprogramming Video

In the video, you’ll be shown exactly how to:

  • Enter pairing mode on the aircon unit
  • Re-sync the TRUMA remote control with the indoor unit
  • Confirm the remote is now communicating correctly

Tip: You may need to try the reprogramming process more than once for it to take effect.
